We have an opportunity for an Electronics Engineering / Robotics student to join us on a year placement programme.

If you have a passion for engineering and are a highly motivated student and you are looking for a placement for 2017-2018 this could be the opportunity just for you.

Based in our UK Design and Manufacturing facility in Basingstoke you will have the opportunity to get involved in current projects working with the latest technology developments in design and manufacturing hardware and software including app programming and projects related to IoT. In your year with BitBox you will complete at least one development right from concept through design, prototyping, software development and then mass production.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented embedded software engineer looking to progress their career. If you are looking for an opportunity to develop and maintain a selection of clearly defined high performance embedded applications for a broad range of commercial products this could be the role for you. Your developments will often be from the ground up giving you the opportunity to demonstrate your skill at creating stable platforms for future developments.

Your code will be key to our customers' success by being reliable and easy to maintain. 

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Educated to degree level
  • At least 5 years' experience in embedded software development
  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of programming in ‘C’
  • Good working knowledge of another programming language unrelated to ‘C’
  • Linux experience would be a benefit
    • Developing on a Linux platform
    • Developing Linux applications
    • Linux kernel development (drivers etc)
    Ability to develop bare metal applications on modern microcontrollers – ideally with experience of ARM Cortex-M series processors
  • Ability to read and understand schematics, datasheets and errata notices as they relate to software development
  • Ability to use an oscilloscope and other test equipment to verify correct functioning of developed software
  • Skill in debugging problems and resolving issues without recourse to software debugging tools
  • Familiarity with revision control systems (Subversion, git etc)
  • Ability to work autonomously under the guidance of senior engineers
